It feels weird using the expression “in period” when referring to ‘90s GT racing. The cars are so familiar in motoring pop-culture, as this is widely regarded as a peak period for those racing 'grand tourers', the cars are still topical, with the road versions still being the benchmarks against which their modern counterparts are judged.
Are there more talked-about cars than Ferrari F40, McLaren F1 and Porsche 911? Yet these GT monsters had their heyday around 20 years ago. We are of course celebrating the spectacular GT1 breed at the 75th Members’ Meeting in a few short weeks, so the “period” video above should serve to whet the pallet as we build up to the spectacular high-speed demo. At the time of filming, the F1 GTR hadn’t yet cemented itself in history by winning the 1995 Le Mans 24 hours…
