What could be crazier than racing GT3 cars for 24 hours around a circuit in the middle of the rain-swept Forest of Ardenne in the middle of summer? How about driving those same, purely track derived, racing machines down public roads from the circuit and into the historic centre of a spa town?
Well, that is exactly what happens every year in the build-up to the Spa 24 Hours. Cars from McLaren, Mercedes, Porsche, Aston Martin, Audi, Ferrari and more rumble their collective way through the Flemish countryside on roads that just a few hours earlier held trucks, taxis and various every day traffic.
And, they were joined by some classics too, throw into the mix some classic racing cars of the 1990s and 2000s (Maserai MC12, McLaren F1…) and it’s just an even more bonkers cocktail of automotive joy.
Oh, and to top it all off, in case you didn’t know the spa town we talk of, the one that lends its name to the circuit the cars would race upon that weekend, isn’t just a spa town, it is the spa town. The one after which all other spas were named.
This is special.
