When the McLaren F1 GTR landed in the BPR endurance series in 1995, GT endurance racing would echo to the sound of that spectacular BMW V12 for the next few years as the car set benchmarks, redefined standards and made history.
Such was the impact that the GTR made, it spurred endurance racing titan Porsche to take it on directly with the glorious abomination that was the 911 GT1. Come the 1996 4 hours of Spa, the Porsches were delivering their countering blow to the F1 amongst a grid of F40 LM GTEs, Vipers, 911 GT2s, Lister Storms and more. Watch, in the video above, as the legendary McLaren F1 GTR, the titanic Porsche 911 GT1 and the furious F40 LM battle it out at the iconic Belgian circuit.
We can’t wait to see some of these modern classic gods of endurance racing take to Goodwood at 75MM!
If you can't make it at the weekend, don't miss the action on the live stream!
