Car and motorsport advertisements have been some of the most interesting and creative over the years. Are we suckers for them simply because we love cars and motorsport? Possibly. Am I feeling this a little more because, as I write, I’m in the US? Probably. Nevertheless the latest spot celebrating 75 years of NASCAR very much has our attention and not least because 75th anniversaries are very close to our heart at the moment…
We open on a beach with the latest Mustang NASCAR, which peels away to reveal one of the very first Fords to race it, back when it was hosted on the sands of Daytona Beach. We then cut to the 1980s on a super speedway, going over 210 mph, illustrating the progress the series made in just 40 years. Then we cut to the latest Camaro, which strips away to reveal Dale Earnhardt’s incredible 1998 Daytona 500-winning Impala. “75 years of twisted metal and feet made of lead” – okay, we’re all in now. We then see a number of incredible cars, from all eras, joining each other on track, as the narrator says “if the first 75 years is any indication, you’d better brace yourself for the next 75”. We’re braced and of course, also excited to celebrate 75 years of motorsport at Goodwood, and look forward to the next 75.
