Post-bank holiday blues and gloomy blustery weather got you down? Fear not. Where you may find your work, you can also find escapism and we have some here for you. Travel back with us, 41 years, to 1980’s running of Tour Auto.

One of the oldest and longest-running motorsport events before its last running in 1986, Tour de France Automobile as it was known in full first began in 1899 as a road rally around France. By 1980, the term ‘road rally’ was taken literally, on evidence of the competitors we see in this video. Renault 5, Porsche 911, Lancia Stratos, Alpine, Opel, Ford, Alfa Romeo, BMW – sports, rally and tin-top legends met for a multi-discipline assault on the French countryside.

Welcome to Goodwood Elevenses, a mid-morning helping of motoring-related amusement to help break up your day. Watch the last video: Bonkers bike‑engined superminis
