We’re not exaggerating when we say we’ve discovered some of the most exhilarating racing footage you’re likely to see. The Isle of Man is most famous for the TT race where motorbikes clip back gardens and fly past post offices as the biker’s knees skim the kerbs in one of the most dangerous forms of motorsport in the world. This footage, from 1991, has opened our eyes to our new favourite form of motorsport - Peel Karts.
After a brief introduction to the sport with a topless man making some last-minute mechanical adjustments, we’re into the absolutely wild onboard action. Yes, you hear the speed correctly, 120mph with your derrière virtually scraping the floor. The bumping and bouncing is giving us the same vibes as Senna flying around Monaco. It’s just frantic.
We can understand why these karts, with a power to weight ratio better than Apollo 13, aren’t raced on the streets today, but my gosh do we wish they were.
