Relive the golden age of NASCAR at the Talladega Superspeedway in grainy technicolour, complete with a glorious period commentary. The 1 hour and 18 minute long video features the entire 1970 Alabama 500, from the early battles to the ultimate victory by Pete Hamilton. Later that year, Hamilton went on to complete the sweep by winning the Talladega 500.
Watch what was the second ever NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega from brilliant helicopter and trackside angles and enjoy the model simulations (see six minutes in) and driver interviews, from competitors including Richard Petty.
As the cars reach in excess of 200mph around the 2.66-mile oval, it’s hard to believe that this race took place half a century ago.
