Unless you’ve been living under a centrally-heated rock for the past couple of weeks, you’d know that the UK is currently in the middle of a deep freeze. Scotland has recorded its lowest temperature in 25 years, with the mercury plummeting to -23°C in Braemar in the Scottish Highlands. Even the usually snow-shy South Coast is covered in a splattering of the white stuff. And as you would expect, drivers don’t know what to do with themselves…
Unlike in Italy, where the drivers in the Ice Challenge most certainly do. In fact, they more than know how to handle themselves on the white stuff – to the point of showing off.
Join 19Bozzy92 on the sidelines of the first round of the 2021 Challenge, held at the Ice Driving School's Livigno circuit. With temperatures dropping to -24°C, drivers wrapped up warm to race against the clock, in a style similar to Formula Challenge races. Among the contestants was Hyundai WRC driver Craig Breen, behind the wheel of a modified utility vehicle. Also skidding around the ring was a dual-engined Range Rover Evoque lookalike, a Giannini 350 GP-styled, Alfa Romeo V6-powered Ice Proto car and the ex-Snobeck Racing Opel Astra Hatchback 4WD V6. It’s certainly a site to behold, and has left us determined to perfect our snow drifting skills…
