It’s a grey hump day in the middle of January and the third national lockdown. We wouldn’t blame you for feeling a little glum, and while furious rally cars can’t quite solve everything, they’re a brilliant distraction from the present day. So tune in and transport yourself back to the late ‘90s, and join Belgian rally legend Patrick Snijers as he drives his Ford Escort WRC '97 hard.
The red Bastos-liveried car takes on the tarmac with the fury of a tornado, drifting through corners and taking flight over small humps. As it flies past the camera, it sounds like one too, the anti-lag system keeping the inline-four Cosworth YBT’s turbo spooling when Snijers lifts off the throttle.
Fast forward to 2 minutes 40 seconds and join the 1994 European Champion in the cockpit as he carefully navigates the car through the tight countryside roads. It’s a sight to behold!
