Hustling a big black Corvette with a massive V8 must surely get the heart racing at all times. Do it round the climbs and drops of Road Atlanta with just enough rain falling to make your windscreen wet? That must be exhilarating. So why does this video seem so relaxing?
I’m pretty sure it’s a mixture of three things. First off, the growly but very relaxed sound that that V8 puts out. Secondly, the way driver Jody O’Donnell carves his way past the rest of the field while trying to hunt down leader Todd Treffert’s 911. And finally, just how relaxed O’Donnell is at the wheel.
This is not the first time we’ve given you a video of Jody and his big Corvette, that last one involved him putting it on pole and then spinning into the gravel. But this time it’s perhaps even more mesmerising to watch him wheel the car around.
On dry tyres and with the rain falling it does get just a little dicey at times – especially a big lurid snap of oversteer at around 2:40 – but that doesn’t stop Jody from delivering his one-handed magic. It’s just mesmerising to watch and, somehow, really rather therapeutic.
