Crikey, we’re in danger of some classic motoring writing hyperbole with this one. For this is a video dedicated to a Porsche 904/6, shot with a very high-quality camera and microphone from a decent distance, as it makes its way around Assen for the Classic GP.
The result is first, a high quality recording, and second, a decent demonstration of how a car’s sound evolves as it gets further and further away from you.
Straight-talking stuff out of the way, this thing is just pure mechanical music, right? Even compared to many of the other racers it finds itself on track next to – E-types, Ford Galaxies and so on, it’s absolutely monstrously loud. Of course, traditionally, the 904 is equipped with a four-cylinder boxer engine. The 904/6s get that extra bit on the end denoting a flat-six swap and there’s no doubting what powers this green machine.
We love seeing them race here at Goodwood for the Revival and Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, where they’re often some of the loudest, most musical cars on our grids. So there’s not much more to say other than sit back, relax and enjoy.
