The Spa-Francorchamps circuit is one of the most recognisable and spectacular race tracks in the world, whether it’s playing host to the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, or in this case, the Spa Classic. It represents a unique challenge with its mix of high-speed corners and elevation changes, while these endurance racers have the extra task of tackling the likes of Eau Rouge and Blanchimont in the dark as night falls.
This video is a great opportunity to experience some legends of endurance racing returning to their natural habitat and once again gracing this hallowed ribbon of tarmac. The good news is they still look and sound fantastic.
We also get to enjoy the view from the cockpit of this Porsche 996 GT3 RSR, a car that first raced in 2004 and built on the success of the GT3 R and RS that achieved seven Le Mans 24 Hours class victories between 1999 and 2006. It’s an incredibly satisfying view, watching Maurizio Fratti slam his way through that sequential six-speed gearbox as he roars down the Kemmel Straight. He’s clearly pushing hard too, as he saws away at the wheel and visibly closes on the group of cars ahead. We can only imagine what a joy this car must be to drive.
