Group C sportscars are something special to behold, regardless of how you’re exposed to them. There is a savagery with which they attack a circuit and expend high octane petroleum that we have seldom seen since their heyday in the late '80s.
And yet, here you are watching this spectacular footage of a Jaguar XJR-14 being worked hard around Spa-Francorchamps, and it’s like they never went away. The fantastic view from the cockpit-cam gives a spectacular perspective of life aboard an XJR-14 at full lick, and it’s like someone hit fast forward in the universe. The thing absolutely annihilates the circuit, dispensing with the formidable Eau Rouge as if it were a flat kink. The car bobs around under the weight of air smashing into the aero devices, forcing the car down and that Ford 3.5-litre Formula 1-derived engine emits a shrill never ending howl all the way up to 10,000rpm, eviscerating its fuel reserves as the driver bangs through the gears on the tightly knit manual transmission and manipulates the power band.
What a brilliant video of an incredible car on a spectacular circuit. What would you take out for a day of lapping at Spa?
