It’s a unique predicament, and one that we’re very lucky to suffer, but sometimes it can incredibly difficult to tell whether a screaming engine sound is coming from a colleague’s computer, or the circuit which surrounds us.
Today is one of those days. With a classic track session well underway, we’ve spent the day attuned to a splendiferous soundtrack of V8s and straight-sixes. A humming Judd GV10 isn’t that far removed, and this Lola T92/10 video has blended into the background noise marvellously. But in actual fact, the car in question is contesting the 2019 Dix Mille Tours racing weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard back in October 2019...
The last round of the Peter Auto series saw more than 350 historic cars in action on the track, setting a new record in the tenth such event.
This Lola T92/10 was built in 1992 and designed to resemble a covered Formula car instead of a prototype. Thanks to intense wind tunnel development, the car boasts extraordinarily high down-force figures and modest drag, which makes for a very high downforce-to-drag' ratio. In order to meet the new 3.5-litre Group C rules, Lola equipped the car with its pre-existing F1 engine.
Piloted by Peter Garrod in Group C, no. 30, came 12th of 13 drivers in Race 1, and 11th of 13 in Race 2. Not the most impressive statistics, for sure, but the sound makes up for it…
