The straight-six in an old school BMW M3 is a beautiful thing. All high pitched and revvy. add that to a straight cut, competition gearbox and things just become so good you might need some alone time.
Well, that’s what we have for you in today’s Elevenses. A full rally-spec E36 M3 being absolutely hurled through the German countryside in a tarmac rally stage.
That’s one of the beauties of rallying if you can afford it. Basically being given free reign of some cracking roads, with no on coming traffic, no other cars and no worrying about the police or traffic laws, just you, the road and an awesome car.
Which makes us unbelievably jealous of the team at Otterback Motorsport who spend a lot of their time doing just that. Simply riding along is a thrill, the roads switch from wide and flowing to tight and labyrinthine. There’s a real skill in slotting over a tonne of BMW through these tight roads, and an absolute pleasure in listening to them.
Downside? We really want an E36 now…
