It’s a video that reminds us why we all love historic racing. The Lister’s offbeat, gravelly, and utterly analogue engine contrasts the noise of current F1 cars, sometimes so measured that they almost sound digital.
You also get a much better sense of speed in the Lister than in anything modern, as the British sports car skews past 140mph. It would go a lot faster if it weren’t for the chicanes placed strategically out on track.
The Lister could be had with a six-cylinder Jaguar or V8 Chevrolet power, and if our ears don’t deceive us, it’s the former being put through its paces here. And it sounds glorious. A six-cylinder motor at full chat could well be the embodiment of motorsport, and it’s even better to savour it with a manual gearbox bolted to the block.
Welcome to Goodwood Elevenses, a helping of motoring-related amusement to help break up your day. Watch the last video: Get up close and personal with a Benetton B197 at Hockenheim.
