We’re just over a month away from the 2022 Goodwood Revival and the reminiscing about the spectacular action from last year is well underway. For today’s elevenses, we’re jumping into the 2015 St. Mary’s Trophy and the spectacular battle between Nick Swift in his Mini Cooper S and Alex Furiani in his Alfa Romeo 1600 GTA.
These two touring car titans of the ‘60s are nearly a perfect match around Goodwood, with both maintaining momentum as they dive into the corners. The difference is Furiani is balancing a powered rear end, while Swift uses the Mini’s weight balance to get the rear end chasing. In any case, it’s proper nose-to-tail stuff, for lap after lap, with Swift having to resort to forcing the Alfa into a traffic box for a chance to overtake. Of course, with that slight power advantage and more stable platform the Alfa fights back. There are no hard limits when it comes to Nick Swift, so he pushes his Mini sideways on the way into St. Mary’s in a bid to unsettle the Alfa. Can he make the move to secure the position? Watch on to find out.
