For a car enthusiast in the bonds of the weekday slog, the sound of a McLaren F1 GTR’s straight cut gears comes to you in your tea break as a ray of light through the clouds comes to a storm-weary sailor.
What a gift from McLaren, with a clip from a camera mounted at the nose of an F1 GTR as it chases another at the Nürburgring. It’s from the fifth race of BPR Global GT Endurance series, where the F1 took victory in 1996. Watch as the two F1s weave around a stunning 993 Porsche 911, a Morgan and a Lotus Esprit, hopping and skipping over curbs to the very edges of the track. As you can hear, there’s no sequential shifting in the F1 and to our delight, comes a footwell view of the driver working pedals like a concert pianist. The BMW Motorsport V12 sings as it rips through the revs, powering the F1s to a podium lockout.
