Not only is the 904 GTS coupe a serious looker, its mid-mounted powerplant and lightweight fibre-glass body made it a genuine contender on the circuit, later morphing into a favourite for road rallies across continental Europe. From watching this mesmerising onboard, we can see why.
The shapely body of the 904 was the very first fibreglass build from Porsche, bonded to a steel chassis for extra stiffness on track. Powered by reliable flat-four and flat-six cylinder engines, the two-seater racer quickly developed into an icon with a reputation for incredible racing durability following strong endurance showings at Nurburgring, and a class-winning performance at Le Mans in 1964. Nimble, reliable and an awful lot of fun to chuck around a tree-lined classic road-rally stage, the 904 is firmly on our favourites list.
