We’re fully in the sunny blaze of summertime and less than a month out, from the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. So, naturally, all we’re doing is watching crazy hillclimb videos on YouTube in anticipation of our own Hill being lit up with the world’s greatest road and racing cars. Fancy joining us? David Hauser will gladly have us, as he attacks Trento Bondone in his Wolf GB08 hillclimb prototype.
It really does have a feeling of the Targa Florio reborn, as this howling machine claws its way around the mountain roads and through hilltop villages that disappear from view as quickly as they entered it. There are a few corners where this highly-strung, high-downforce machine needs a considered approach, where understeer is one excess mph away but Hauser’s inputs are perfectly measured. Once out in the clearer section, as the road snakes left and right up a mountainside, the Wolf makes short work of stringing a racing line through this Italian ribbon of asphalt.
