We are definitely getting very excited for the 79th Members' Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport now that we have less than 10 days to go. One of the stand out elements of any Members' Meeting is the huge variety of races and cars, unlike anything you will see anywhere else. A fine example is the Pierpoint Cup. Where else on this side of the Atlantic are you likely to see a grid made up entirely of old school muscle, by which we mean traditional Detroit-built V8s built before 1966?
A bit like an all-American counterpoint to the Gerry Marshall, the Pierpoint Trophy is no quarter given as a selection of saloons, many of which simply look too large to navigate the Goodwood Motor Circuit's confines, do battle. Not just with each other, but the physics of brutish torque, leaf springs, ungainly weight transfer and skinny tyres. This driver's eye view of the No.19 Ford Mustang shared by Alex Taylor and Andy Priaulx last year is a brilliant demonstration of all of those factors coming in to play, the effect magnified by being on cold tyres on the opening lap. It looks like a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun.
