It’s not often that we see a sprint from the back of the pack that leaves us truly wide-eyed and open-mouthed in amazement. But this onboard from the Equipe Pre ‘63 racing series at Brands Hatch has all but rendered us flabbergasted.
Join Jack Rawles aboard FSL 246, his Austin Healey 3000 on the Indy circuit over the last weekend of April 2019. Then aged just 21, the talented driver winds his way through the pack, making space where there is none and leaving the competition standing in his wake. In just 25 laps he progresses from 23rd to take the win, the 2.9-litre inline-six humming in agreement throughout.
With lap times consistently around 59 seconds and an average speed below 100mph, the shaky camera and languishing adversaries give the illusion of a much higher speed. But ultimately the young driver proves that you don’t have to be super fast to show finesse.
