Take one insane class of car, the Group 5 silhouette, and throw an insane supercar at it, say the De Tomaso Pantera. The results, predictably, are as raucous as you would imagine. It’s the typical ‘70s wedge on steroids, with tyre profiles to make a Bugatti Veyron blush.
There are enormous box arches and a giant wing reminiscent of rivals from Porsche 935 and Zakspeed Capri. The monster V8 engine is not something shared with other European rivals and that V8 ripples the air with its energy in a frankly debaucherous manner. Put it all together and stick it on the Nürburgring and you have quite a potent day of driving for the lucky owner. Okay, they’re on the GP circuit, but still. We wouldn’t want to be caught short in the braking zone on the way down to that first corner…
