The yearly Rally Legend event in San Marino isn't quite a closing celebration of the rallying year, given that there are still two rounds to go of the World Rally Championship. But it's as near as you can get to one.
It's also a pretty hard event to classify, given that there is such an incredible variety of cars on show at the event. In fact you'll find everything from old Ford Escorts to Thierry Neuville in his brand new Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC challenger. If you look at the results list you'll also find a certain Ken Block topping his class and finishing just 15 seconds shy of the eventual winner in his Ford Escort Cosworth "COSSIE", which made its public debut at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard earlier in the year.
This video is a compilation of stageside clips which show just how much of a madhouse the rally actually is, never mind the extreme entry list, it's just as much of a party stage side. Thankfully most of the drivers are there to join in the fun, with many taking what could definitely be described as the slower route – completely sideways wherever they are – rather than looking for quick lines. Some even adorn their cars with LED lights and more to join in with the madness of flares, lights and noise coming from the boistrous crowd.
There's almost too much to take in in just 12 minutes of noise, smoke, mud and mistakes.
