Piloting any car around Laguna Seca is pretty high up on most of our bucket lists, but driving the 1986 Le Mans-winning Porsche 962 around Laguna Seca during the biggest celebration of Porsche on the planet, that’s pretty special.
We’ve met Malcolm Ross and his stunning Le Mans-winning Porsche 962 before. In fact, you can watch a video we made with Malcolm about that car and his Jaguar XJR-16 here. Malcolm is not only lucky enough to own these two cars, he was also invited to race his Porsche at Rennsport Reunion 7.
Fortunately, Malcolm is not one of those owner-drivers who will pootle his nearly priceless car around, he’s a driver constantly looking to improve his performance and get somewhere toward the pro’s level. So whenever we get the opportunity to put a camera in with him we take it.
This was practice for the racing to come over the weekend – on the gloriously sunny Friday, before the rain arrived on Saturday – so we’re not constantly ‘on it’ but there’s plenty of action, and some lovely sound from that big flat-six sitting behind us.
