Florent Moulin, with his gradual acquisition of classic racing cars, has forged himself a claim as possibly the coolest man in the world. As we saw when he brought a load of his collection to the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport to take part in the unforgettable GT1 demo, he has taken ownership of some true motorsport legends.
Legends such as this Chrysler Viper GTS-R, no doubt one of the most spectacular racing cars of all time, with its 8.0-litre V10 engine producing somewhere in the region of 600-800PS (441-599kW) and handling that requires full attention from even the most talented of drivers.
Drivers like Alain Prost, for whom this car was originally prepared for his entry into the FFSA GT Championship in 2005. He won a race and scored three podium finishes in what was a dominant car throughout much of the early 2000s.
It’s easy to see why it was so good. Just look at this thing fly down the Mulsanne straight as we ride onboard with Moulin during his run at the Le Mans Classic. He’s embroiled in a high-energy battle with a Maserati MC12, a duel comprising 22 cylinders.
This era of GT racing was simply phenomenal, the sights, the sounds and the variety were unparalleled, and we can’t help but spend our days reminiscing over cars like the Viper GTS-R.
