Of all the cars you would expect to be turned into a silhouette bewinged hillclimb-conquering weapon, the Suzuki Vitara, or Escudo as it’s known to some, is perhaps at the bottom of that list. But Pikes Peak makes racers of all and does not discriminate. So naturally, we’re about to transport you back to the 1990s watching what was once, or actually potentially never was, a Suzuki Escudo.
It’s as dramatic as you’d expect, seeing a towering trail of dust and up ahead, a giant wing with a little car attached kicking it all up. The light cut-outs are perhaps the only clue as to what this silhouette never was, with blistered arches, scoops, a splitter to rival a JCB loadall bucket. Plus, there’s a gearbox whine and a roaring turbocharged engine entirely alien to anything you’d find in a ‘90s Suzuki dealer. Does Pikes Peak create the coolest racing cars?
