There comes a point late in the day where if you’re in an office, you just end up whiling away the fine minutes watching YouTube videos. Allow us then to dedicate today’s Elevenses, to further enabling such a drop in productivity, with some vintage sportscar racing at Phillip Island.
One of a huge range of historic motorsport events across the world, the Philip Island Classic in 2023 featured a race for historic open-top prototypes. In the line-up was this fabulous Chevron B31 Ford BDG, featuring a screaming Ford twin-cam four-cylinder.
We first get a lovely view of the mill sat amidships, four trumpets popping out of one side, a snaking exhaust manifold on the other and the twin-cam head between them. We then see it screaming around the track in the heat of competition alongside comparable machinery. What a wonderful little thing and proof that your race car doesn’t have to have some howling six- eight- or 12-cylinder engine to be cool.
Welcome to Goodwood Elevenses, a helping of motoring-related amusement to help break up your day. Watch the last video: Witness this absolutely mind‑blowing hillclimb run
