It’s always fun taking cars out of their comfort zones. A Porsche 911 doesn’t necessarily thrive best on a rally stage. A Lamborghini isn’t designed to traverse an ice lake. Likewise, a Formula 1 car won’t reach speeds sufficient enough to test its highly sophisticated aerodynamics up a sprawling driveway in west Sussex.
Still, all of the above sound like – and are – quite a lot of fun. Especially the latter… So a fish out of water in this context doesn’t carry all the negative connotations you might think. Here, then, we have a veritable great white in a garden pond. Coned-out autosolos favour manoeuvrability, tractability and manageable power – traits for which a thunderous V8 Shadow Can-Am car is definitely not famous for. Yet watching it slither about a small course is no less a delight. Next up, a drift car on a ski slope.
