There’s nothing like the unadulterated roar of a 427 cubic-inch big-block V8 on a Friday afternoon. Fortunately, that’s the form today’s automotive respite comes in, as we ride onboard with Jody O’Donnell in his absolutely immense C3 Corvette.
We’re racing on the high-speed and undulating Road Atlanta, a circuit that is surprisingly well suited to an enormous ‘60s muscle car. The car is rarely straight, and when it is it’s still squirming under the power of that cacophonous V8.
It looks like an alarming experience, made all the more challenging by the bulge that’s been bolted onto the bonnet, which makes it quite difficult to see what’s happening out in front – a fact not helped by the endless crests of this spectacular track.
Regardless of all the challenges he’s facing O’Donnell still manages to absolutely nail the opening lap with a mix of commitment, bravery and skill as the dust gets kicked up around him. And when he does get the chance to nail the throttle, you just it’s quite possibly the best feeling in the world.
