Perhaps not this exact one, but Jaguar D-Types will be out in force throughout the event, racing in the Sussex Trophy and Freddie March Memorial Trophy, and also starring in the celebration of the Jaguar’s XK engine.
Here we see it in action at Silverstone during a classic race meeting in 1992, a video that begins with a short voice over stating the Jaguar D-Type is worth more than £500,000, you’d be lucky to get an original for less than several million these days, but their value is by the by once you get them out on the circuit, for their sporting prowess remains as remarkable as ever.
The sound of that straight-six XK engine is divine, but it’s the skill of the driver here that immediately catches our attention. There’s absolutely no holding back in this clip as we fly first through the old Brooklands and Luffield section now lost to time, before wrestling the car through Woodcote and sweeping through Copse with armfuls of opposite lock.
Similarly spectacular is the run through the old Stowe corner as we head left through the original circuit layout to bypass Vale and head straight to Club. We get to enjoy more of the old circuit through, as we sweep through the highspeed Abbey and Bridge corners before the D-Type starts to emit some concerning blue smoke that signals an unfortunate end to the race for us.
Driving cars like this must be so exhilarating, balancing a car so deftly on the throttle looks like an awful lot of fun, and we can’t wait to see much more action like this when the Revival gets underway.
