To be handed the keys to a Porsche is something quite special, but can you possibly imagine what it would be like to be handed a small, simple metal key attached to a red, leather keyring with the Porsche insignia on it and pointed in the direction of a Group C Porsche 956? Even in this hypothetical world, our brains can’t compute the ridiculousness of that situation. For Phil Keen at the 79th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, that’s exactly what happened
The video takes us onboard a 956 with a wonderfully immersive 360-degree camera for Sunday’s Porsche Group C demo with, as you may have seen, some of the most exquisite and precious examples of various 956 and 962 variants. This car is chassis 108, a car which race in period eight times, and of those races, all in Japan, it was knocked out with an accident once, finished third once, but then won the other six.
No, Keen isn’t able to push the car quite as hard as he does others at the Members’ Meeting and Revival, but this was a demo after all, not a race. But watching this car fly along, turbocharger whistling, all the while following other Group C Porsches, it’s pretty wild.
