Fans of Gran Turismo will recognise this place. A small and fiddly little race track hidden away in the Japanese countryside north of Tokyo, and this video looks like it could well have come out of a very early version of those games, as we’re treated to a spectacular fight between a field that looks to be made up entirely of Datsun Sunnys.
It’s a round of the TSCup, organised by the Japanese Classic Car Association, and here we’re riding onboard with one of the drivers starting near the front of the grid. It’s an action-packed start, as the driver ahead suffers a huge lockup into the second hairpin. From then on, we’re locked in a tight battle for the lead between three well-matched competitors in these glorious Datsuns.
We have the benefit of a perfect view here, too. The driver’s every move is visible, including those wonderfully snappy gear changes that must’ve taken a good while to perfect with such a long throw ‘box. He’s certainly pushing hard.
