Ever heard of an Oldsmobile Aurora? Unless you live in the USA there’s a decent chance that you have not. It was a pretty unremarkable saloon car sold in the US from 1999 to 2003. But, far more importantly than that, it was also a GT car that raced in IMSA.
And this is that Oldsmobile Aurora, a thundering V8 with an incredibly awkward face and a big rear wing. We have actually featured this particular car several times on these pages, but we don’t think any of that has involved us riding onboard.
Not only does the Oldsmobile Aurora GTS-1 sound incredible as it thunders around the banking of Daytona in testing for the Historic Sportscar Racing Classic 24 event, it is also rip-roaringly fast.
Just check out exactly how fast it dispatches a not exactly slow BMW 3.0 CSL at around the two minute mark. The whole video is glorious, and it’s a full five lap stint to enjoy. The perfect accompaniment for a morning coffee. Mighty stuff.
