A Japanese race circuit, two superbikes – it’s not an unusual sight. But as the camera pans in, the field starts to get a little more… confusing. First a pair of supermotos – perhaps it’s an open pitlane track day – but then, what’s this?
As we well know by now, looks can be deceiving, for this is no clapped-out old banger. As the race gets underway, this custom flat track bike absolutely smokes the competition, closely passing first the supermotos and soon after the superbikes. With the bike leant almost horizontally, he laps the Kawaguchi Auto Racing oval circuit with the relaxed poise of a Sunday cruiser, proving that often, it’s not the bike but the rider.
Since it was uploaded in 2015, the so named ‘First Heterogeneous Martial Arts Race’ (thank you Google translate) has amassed more than 32 million views – and it’s easy to see why!
