Normally it’s the onboard sections of these hillclimb videos that are the most eye-opening. But for this particular one we reckon it’s the first minute, showing what this car looks like, that is truly spectacular.
This is a Ford Escort RS Cosworth, except it’s not a Cossie like you’ve seen before. For a start it has very, very flared front arches, blanked off lights and a big splitter. Then the iconic rear spoiler has been removed to be replaced with what can only be described as a bloody giant wing.
At the rear, it is a relatively normal Escort. The boot and bumper look the same and the rear arches seem pretty much unchanged. But then you see how fast it moves away from you and you remember that it really isn’t a normal Cossie, it’s something much more exciting.
But actually, don’t stop with the outside shots. The onboard bit is pretty manic, especially when driver Carmine Tancredi sticks his foot down, and unleashes all 580PS (427kW) and gearchanges that crack like a pistol. You can even see all his footwork thanks to the incredibly open cockpit.
