In all of motorsport, perhaps with the exception of hillclimbing, rallying is the discipline with the capability to produce the weirdest, wildest most wonderful machinery. A case in point is this Mitsubishi Cordia, a car you likely haven’t heard of as standard, with a 750PS-plus V8, all-wheel-drive and aero to make an Escort Cosworth blush.
At the wheel is former Hyundai WRC works dri er Hayden Paddon, on the way to winning the Ashley Forest Rally Sprint in 2011. Have you ever heard such a wild thing: V8 noises that wouldn’t be out of place at Le Mans in 1966, in a Japanese rally car getting absolutely sent down a special stage. We love to see it.
