Virginia International Raceway is a pretty scary circuit. It’s super fast, quite technical at some points, with big elevation changes and off-camber sections. It’s just about the perfect, all-encompassing test of a driver’s ability to read the road in front of them. So with that in mind, we’re here to scare you half to death, with this on-board clip of Hugh Stewart absolutely sending his fully stripped, track-prepped, dog-boxed E46 M3 around VIR.
At points it looks like it’s on fast-forward, or that he might not make the turn. We can almost feel the car bobbing around on the sidewalls of its slicks. How to raise your heartrate while sat at a desk? Stare transfixed at this situation. Then of course there’s the given with an E46 M3 – the unholy roar of that S54 3.2-litre straight-six engine, in this case tuned, with a race-spec exhaust and no sound-deadening. It’s like half a McLaren F1 GTR is burrowing into your ears, and we love the pain.
Throw it all together and you have a real afternoon pick-me-up, to see you through the rest of your week. God bless independent garagiste racers, preparers and drivers…
