While we should be gearing up to welcome you to the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard hillclimb, instead we’re wistfully watching other hillclimb clips online. And this one has us transfixed…
Watch this Ferrari 308 GTB Group 4 replica explode up the Trofeul Sinaia Hillclimb, its driver taking no prisoners as he wrestles the screaming supercar up the hill. Listen to the engine scream in protest as he shifts through the dog-leg manual ‘box with ease.
It’s not an original Group 4 car, instead starting life in 1977 as a plain old (ha!) 308 GTB, before it was converted by Romanian driver Horatiu Ionescu Cristea. Today, it features a naturally-aspirated, dry-sumped, carburettored 3.0-litre Ferrari F106 AB V8 engine, tuned by Formula GT to reach 325PS at 8,000rpm. With a custom exhaust and fibreglass panels, it weighs just 1,050kg in hillclimb-spec.
