Peugeot are back in the highest ranks of endurance racing and for that, the world is a better place. It’s safe to say the likes of Toyota and indeed, any and all other challengers to the Japanese giant’s dominance will need to be on their best game, if Peugeot’s past form is anything to go by.
The last time Peugeot built a car to battle at La Sarthe, it took on the dominant-at-the-time Audi and brought home the silverware in 2009. That’s the machine in which we find ourselves for today’s Elevenses. all 5.5 litres and 12 cylinders of it. The 908 FAP is in this stunning onboard video getting exercised 13 years on from that last win and 11 years on from the end of its contemporary racing career. While cars on the track are blocking its way, there’s more than enough space at Silverstone for us to get the glorious thumping sound of that diesel V12.
They’re off to a tentative start with their return to top-level endurance racing, but we’re rooting for a big return to form for Peugeot with the 9X8. Can we feel another golden era coming on?
