We’re usually on the hunt for the fastest flat-out onboards here at GRR, but with the summer heat that has descended upon us, we’re feeling a little slower…
Not quite this slow, mind. Belgian Motorsport has surprised us with what is possibly the laziest laps that it has ever featured, courtesy of a pair of 1972 Trabant 601 RS.
Competing in the YTCC race series, the diminutive little racers are powered by a two-stroke, 594.5cc engine, which puts out just 26PS and 54Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. Weighing in at around 660kg, it boasts a top speed of just 62mph, which pales in comparison to the other cars on track in this video filmed at the Zolder and Spa-Francorchamps Circuits.
To put its lethargic pace into perspective, the Trabant laps Spa in almost double the time it takes a GT3 car – 4 minutes 14.756 seconds to a GT3’s 2 minutes 19.245 seconds…
