Name a more beautiful sight than a clutch of classics flying around a banked concrete autodrome… We’ll wait. For today’s Elevenses, let us take you back to 1995 and the fourth edition of the revived Tour Auto, which by then had become one of the most famous historic rallies in the world.
Take just a minute to enjoy the wonderful grainy patina of this video, and its iconic protagonist, the Lightweight Jaguar E-type. Driven by Rupert Beckwith Smith and a driver listed only by the name of Comas, the Jag flies around the banked Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry during the first stage of the 1995 Tour Auto, during the Étape Paris vers Tours.
After scrutineering, the rally set off from La Fontaine du Trocadéro in Paris on Tuesday, 25th April 1995, passing by the Circuit de Montlhéry, Circuit de la Châtre, Circuit du Mas du Clos Circuit d'Albi in just four short days.
