When you put together such a stacked grid of cars from an incredible era of Group 1 touring cars, you end up with a race track full of spectacular action from start to finish. That’s exactly why the Gordon Spice Trophy is one of the absolute highlights of the Goodwood Motorsport season year after year.
This year’s running at the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport was no exception, as we were once again treated to a breathless showcase of touring car turmoil. Heat 1 was the stage for the big-engined brutes, with Ford Capris, Rover SD1s, Ford Mustangs, and Chevrolet Camaros all vying for glory. The battles on track were suitably hard fought.
Battles such as this one, a brilliant scrap between two V8 Camaros as they roared around the Goodwood Motor Circuit, caught in an intense duel for position that lasted for multiple laps. The number 31 car of James Thorpe holding off Oliver Bryant behind as the two appeared to be joined at the bumper, the following driver piling on relentless pressure as they flew into the breaking zones at St. Mary’s, Lavant and Woodcote corners.
Such closely matched racing is exactly what we love at Members’ Meeting, and these two drivers put on a great demonstration of how to keep it clean.
