The Jaguar XJR name has graced some of the most iconic sportscars ever to race at the likes of Le Mans and Daytona. The Silk Cut Jaguar team won the World Sportscar Championship in 1987, 1988 and 1991 with the XJR-8, XJR-9 and XJR-14 respectively in what was an incredibly successful period for the British marque.
This particular Jaguar XJR-7, however, never really got a chance to show the world what it could do. It was only ever used in testing and never made a race. You may have seen plenty of XJRs in action before, but this Group 44 machine definitely deserves a little bit of your time.
The engine is the famous Jaguar 6.0-litre V12 producing 760PS (559kW), and as soon as you start the video you can hear why it is such a revered engine – it sounds absolutely incredible. Doug Smith is at the wheel here at the Sebring International Raceway and he gives us a real indication of what could have been as we ride onboard.
It’s in stark contrast to some of the racing cars of today as you can see the amount of effort and input that’s needed to get the car around some of the tighter corners.
