Ever since our trip to the Daytona International Speedway for the Classic 24 Hour, we’ve had an unhealthy obsession with classic racing Americana. There’s just something about the American mentality of bigger engines means more winning. There’s nothing subtle about an ‘80s American muscle car set up for racing and there ruddy well shouldn’t be. Take this 1981 Chevrolet Camaro IMSA GTO for example. It has a screaming 6.5-litre V8 and, of course, has a full American flag livery (with additional ‘USA’ written on the side). Just in case that wasn’t enough, there’s a rather large wing for good measure.
America does have some fantastic circuits, but when you get that Americana in Europe amongst the slightly subtler designs, it really starts to stand out. In this video we’re at the 2022 Spa Classic in Belgium where we can see the 588PS (432kW) Camaro really stretch its legs amongst some impressive traffic such as the BMW M1 and Ferrari 512 BB LM.
