A Porsche 904 GTS and Walter Röhrl: name a more iconic pairing – we’ll wait. Luckily, you don’t have to, for the two German legends joined forces in this epic clip produced by Porsche.
Admittedly, it aired more than nine years ago (Porsche’s YouTube video production values have gone up quite considerably since then), but the content is nothing short of spectacular.
The 904 GTS debuted in 1963, built to compete in the FIA-GT class in various international races. It saw remarkable success during its debut year racing in 1964, taking an incredible first place overall at the Targa Florio, a third at the Nürburgring and a perfect finish at Le Mans. All five 904s entered in the races placed in the top 12 overall, with the sleek car soon earning itself a reputation for reliability.
Join rally legend Röhrl for a lap in this incredible car, and be careful to spot the two-time World Rally Champ break his steely composure to smile as he slides the classic around a corner. He may have competed in hundreds of rally stages, plus a couple of Le Mans 24 Hours, but the then 64-year-old German could still appreciate a fine car on a fast track.
More of this please Porsche!
