Can you think of two greater legends of Pikes Peak than Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima or Rod Millen? You could probably mention names like Romain Dumas these days, but in the history of this great Hillclimb, Millen and Tajima are the ones that stick in our minds.
What if we told you we had found a golden video of both of them competing against each other at Pikes Peak at the same time? Live footage of two of the greatest of all time and Pikes Peak back when it was all gravel, at its most difficult.
That’s what this video is, amazing footage from ESPN of these two also in a couple of their most famous cars. Millen is in his awesome yellow Toyota Celica, Monster Tajima is in the Suzuki Escudo that you all remember from Gran Turismo.
It’s spellbinding stuff. But since this video is just shy of an hour we’ll let you into a secret, the big stars arrive at about 47 minutes in. Fast forward to there if you want to see the two hillclimb legends on full attack. But don’t let that make you miss the rest of the gold. Some of the ‘ordinary’ cars that are on show are awesome too. There’s Chevrolet Camaros, Ford Mustangs and even the odd pickup truck. All sliding their way round one of the most iconic sections of road in the world.
