Imagine a world where, rather than saving the universe, Marvel had decided that Ant-Man was actually a massive motorsport fan and wanted to use his suit to just sit in any racing car he wished.
Well, that’s basically what this video is like, or at least we think so. You’re pretty much sitting on Bruce Canepa’s shoulder – in full 4K – as he pilots a Porsche 962C around the dips and climbs of Laguna Seca.
It’s actually a helmet-cam positioned quite far back on Canepa’s skid lid, but you get the idea. And it turns out that mounting a camera so far back is, rather than an odd idea, genius.
In this case you get to watch everything, from the view through the surprisingly easy-to-see-out-of windscreen to the dials and wheelwork Canepa puts in. At one point, as he heads down Laguna Seca’s main straightaway, we can even watch him adjust some of the car’s multitude of dials.
In fact, the only things missing from this view are somehow seeing Canepa dance on the pedals and him changing gear, which he does with his other hand. But we do get a birds eye view of the big Porsche flying through traffic and battling another GTP car later on so it’s probably good enough.
Oh, and you can hear the flat-six revving and the turbos humming away as if you were there onboard too… like Ant-Man.
