Some motorsport disciplines are just synonymous with certain nationalities. V8 Supercars, Australia. Formula 1, Britain, though that one might court some controversy. Our point actually is that none are as synonymous as America and oval stock car racing. Yet here we are, bringing to you a season review of ASCAR (similar sounding but not the same), held at none other than Rockingham, in the UK. That’s right, a good few of us Brits love a bit of good old-fashioned nuts and bolts V8 speed and hoonery.
This Ascar Mintex Cup season round-up comes from 2002, or in other words *shudders*, more than 20 years ago. That means the cars range from Chevy Monte Carlos and the like, with some highly notable drivers. These include Kelvin Burt, Nicolas Minassian, Jason Plato, Darren Turner, Darren Manning, Ben Collins and Derek Hayes. Even Colin McRae and Matt Neal made one-off appearances. The season came down to the wire too, with four drivers in with a shout of the title when it came down to the final round. Watch on to see who triumphed…
