American Express joins F1 Academy grid

Updated: Friday 26^th April. F1 Academy has announced the addition of American Express to its list of partners for the 2024 season, it’ll sponsor Jessica Edgar’s #17 car for the remaining races of the year.

As part of the Rodin driver line-up, Edgar raced in the colour scheme of F1 Academy during the first round of the season in Jeddah, but she will now race in AmEx colours from here on out.

American Express joins Charlotte Tilbury, Tommy Hilfiger, Puma and Red Bull as the sponsors of the non-F1 affiliated cars on the grid this year.

Edgar finished fourth in race two of the Saudi Arabian round of the championship, and currently sits seventh in the drivers’ standings.

Nerea Marti completes the grid with Campos

Updated: Monday 26^th February. The 2024 F1 Academy grid is complete as Nerea Marti returns to the cockpit with Campos for a second season.

She’ll be representing new F1 Academy partner Tommy Hilfiger, driving a car resplendent in the brand’s livery.

Marti scored one victory in the championship last season, and ended the year fourth in the drivers’ standings. She is the second highest returning finisher from last year.

Red Bull reveals its liveries for F1 Academy

Updated: Monday 26^th February. There will be three Red Bull liveried cars on the F1 Academy grid in 2024, all run by the MP Motorsport team.

Hamda Al Qubaisi will drive the Red Bull supported car alongside her sister and RB representative Amna Al Qubaisi. Emely De Hues completes the trio as part of the Red Bull Academy programme.

All three drivers return to F1 Academy after successful first seasons in 2023. 21-year-old Hamda finished third in the drivers’ standings with four wins, 23-year-old Amna took two wins, and De Heus scored one.

Jess Edgar completes Rodin’s F1 Academy line-up

Updated: Wednesday 21^st February. Jess Edgar will complete the Rodin Motorsport driver line-up for F1 Academy in 2024. She’ll race for the team alongside Abbi Pulling and Lola Lovinfosse.

Edgar drove in the inaugural F1 Academy season last year, taking four podiums including a maiden victory at the final race of the year at the Circuit of the Americas.

“I am really excited to be working with Rodin Motorsport once again this year,” she said. “We had a good 2023, constantly improving each time we went out in the car, and I hope we can do the same.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Rodin Motorsport for the opportunity to return to the F1 Academy grid and keep building on what I learned last year.”

Sauber reveals its livery for F1 Academy

Sauber has unveiled the livery for its entry in F1 Academy for the 2024 season, and it takes a strong dose of inspiration from the Sauber C44, although the green has been toned down a touch, which is a bit disappointing.

The car will be driven by Carrie Schreiner, and run by the Campos team, the car was unveiled ahead of F1 Academy’s pre-season test in Jeddah. The first race of the season will be at the Saudi Arabia circuit as it takes its new place as an official support series of F1.

Mercedes reveals F1 Academy livery

Updated: Monday 19^th February. Mercedes has revealed its livery for the upcoming F1 Academy season. With Junior Driver Doriane Pin behind the wheel, as she makes her full-time single-seater debut, this is bound to be one of the major contenders for the drivers’ championship in 2024.

Taking a clear inspiration from the Mercedes W15 F1 car, the livery design features the same silver nose merging into a black rear end trimmed with the Mercedes three-pointed star motif. The green stripe on each side is coloured in ‘Volt Green’ to represent the junior programme.

"My F1 Academy car is honestly amazing," said Pin, who will race with the number 28 in F1 Academy. "I'm so excited to be racing it and to be representing Mercedes. I think it will be an incredible feeling to jump in the car for the first race in Jeddah.

"The season ahead is a great opportunity to develop my career and skills in single seaters. I can't wait to go racing, discover new tracks and work hard with my team to achieve our goals together."

Lola Lovinfosse to race with Charlotte Tilbury

Updated: Monday 19^th February. Lola Lovinfosse returns to F1 Academy for a second season, and she’ll be driving a very special car in 2024. As part of the Rodin team, the #3 Charlotte Tilbury car represents a big new partnership for the all-female series.

Lovinfosse, who achieved three podium finishes with Campos in 2023, said she was “super happy and proud to be joining Charlotte Tilbury operated by Rodin Motorsport Team. I’m really looking forward for the season to start, we have worked a lot with the team. I’m ready to fight!”

The 18-year-old Frenchwoman began her career in Spanish F4 before joining the F1 Academy grid, where she will be hoping to catch the eye of those in more senior categories with whom she'll be sharing the paddock this season.

McLaren has unveiled its F1 Academy livery for 2024

McLaren has unveiled the car that Bianca Bustamante will drive in this year’s F1 Academy. In keeping with current traditions, it majors on Papaya, while thankfully forsaking the current trend of F1 teams to leave substantial areas of bare carbon.

The 19-year-old from the Philippines, who became the first female member of the McLaren Driver Development programme in October 2023, will race for the ART team in 2024 with a livery inspired by the M6A Can-Am car, the first McLaren to race in Papaya.

It has also been confirmed that Bustamente will retain her number 16 in 2024. She said: “The 2024 F1 Academy season is fast approaching and it's surreal that I'll be driving in the McLaren livery, I absolutely love it! The design is incredibly iconic, and I'm so looking forward to racing in papaya.

“I managed to take a couple of weeks off over the winter, but lately it has been full push both on and off the track to prepare for the first test in Barcelona. Many thanks to McLaren and ART Grand Prix for their continuous support and commitment to helping me become a stronger driver.”

Ferrari nominates Maya Weug for its F1 Academy drive

Updated: Thursday 18^th January. Maya Weug has been chosen as Ferrari’s representative driver in the 2024 F1 Academy season. She completes the three-driver Prema line-up alongside Tina Hausmann and Doriane Pin.

The Ferrari Academy driver graduated from karting into car racing in 2021, when she joined the Italian F4 Championship with Iron Lynx, and then Iron Dames in 2022. A move to European Formula Regional in 2023 brought a handful of solid results, and she has been rewarded with the honour of racing in Ferrari colours for the 2024 season.

“I’m super excited to get back on track this season!” Weug said. “I’m sure it will be a great season working together with such a prestigious team as Prema in the second year of an interesting category like F1 Academy.

“It is a great honour to represent Ferrari again this season and I can’t wait to continue the hard work with the Academy and Prema to prepare the season the best way possible.”

Chloe Chambers chosen as Haas F1 representative

Updated: Thursday 18^th January. Chloe Chambers will race in F1 Academy for the 2024 season, taking a seat at Campos Racing as the Haas F1 team’s chosen driver.

Chambers’ career in car racing began in 2021 in the United States, and she has progressed to W Series and then Formula Regional Oceania, where she took her first victory in single-seaters in 2023.

“I’m super excited to be driving for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team with Campos Racing in F1 Academy,” she said. “Having the backing of Haas is going to open many doors for new experiences and it’s going to be a place where I can learn.

“I’m excited to be going to Miami for Haas’s and my home race. It’s my first season in F1 Academy, so I’m looking forward to getting good results and developing as a driver. I did some testing over the winter with Campos Racing, and the team and I work very well together.”

Doriane Pin to represent Mercedes in 2024

Updated: Tuesday 16^th January. Doriane Pin will race in Mercedes colours in 2024 as she has been chosen as the Mercedes F1 team representative in F1 Academy.

The 20-year-old French driver has been signed to the Mercedes Junior Driver programme, and she will race for the Prema team in the upcoming F1 Academy season.

Her career to date has seen her score podium finishes in the World Endurance Championship and Formula 4, while she also competed for the Iron Dames outfit throughout 2022 and ’23.

Following the announcement, Pin said: “I’m incredibly happy to join the Mercedes Junior Programme and to represent the team in F1 Academy this year with Prema.

“A new chapter begins, and I am proud to make this next step in such a prestigious team. I am grateful for their trust and honoured to race for their colours.”

Carrie Schreiner to represent Sauber in 2024

Updated: Tuesday 9^th January. Carrie Schreiner becomes the latest driver confirmed for the 2024 F1 Academy season. She will represent the Sauber Academy, and race in the colours of the newly renamed Stake F1 Team.

Aside from her affiliation with Sauber, Schreiner has signed to race for Campos in 2024. She moves from the ART outfit for whom she took one win in F1 Academy in 2023.

“I am proud to represent this team and the Sauber Academy in F1 Academy this year,” Schreiner said. “After an exciting first season, I'm looking forward to getting back to work. Sauber has an impressive motorsport history and I want to play my part in continuing its success story in F1 Academy.

“My goal for this season is only one: to win, and to do so flying the flag for the team, while generating more awareness for women in motorsport. F1 Academy is a great platform to realise my ambitions, and I am highly motivated to achieve new milestones with our team and Campos Racing.”

The series’ second season sees several big innovations, including one that sees each of the current ten F1 teams sponsoring one of the 15 seats on the F1 Academy grid. The likes of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull will each be able to nominate a driver to compete and race in their team colours throughout the 2024 season.

Five teams return for a second season in F1 Academy. Prema, MP Motorsport, Rodin, ART and Campos will each run three cars in all of the seven rounds on a calendar that incorporates 21 races in total.

The first driver announcement came from McLaren when it announced that its F1 Academy driver for 2024 would be Bianca Bustamante. So far we have also had confirmation that Tina Hausmann will represent Aston Martin, Lia Block will race for Williams and Abbi Pulling will line up for Alpine.

2023 F1 Academy champion Marta Garcia moves on to a fully-funded seat in the Formula Regional European Championship in 2024.
